Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the 2023 presidential elections in Nigeria, examining their political, historical, and demographic context. It explores the structure of the Nigerian political and electoral system as a framework for understanding patterns of political competition and electoral behavior.

The research analyzes the main political actors and candidates, as well as the outcomes of the elections, highlighting key issues related to organization, voter participation, and transparency. It further evaluates the mechanisms implemented to enhance electoral integrity, including biometric voter registration updates, international observation missions, and administrative and security measures.

Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study assesses the broader objectives pursued through the elections, particularly the consolidation of democratic practices, the peaceful transfer of power, and the promotion of political and social stability.

The study concludes that while the 2023 elections represent an important step in Nigeria’s democratic trajectory, persistent structural and institutional challenges continue to shape electoral outcomes and limit the full realization of public aspirations.
