Abstract

Israel was among the first Asian countries to consider a coronavirus infection after it emerged in China, and quickly took the lead in responding to global demand at specific stages of the pandemic. This crisis has had profound political, economic, security, and social repercussions, prompting some observers to liken it to the October 1973 War, the pandemic caught it by surprise, just as the war did, in the absence of adequate preparedness and readiness for the magnitude of the threat. Since the onset of the crisis, Israel has faced cumulative challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, impacted by continued political instability, along with mounting economic pressures and internal social disparities. These factors combined have complicated efforts to respond to the crisis and mitigate its repercussions. Although Israel possesses advanced systems in some health and technical fields, this pandemic has exposed weak areas within the internal structure that are vulnerable to penetration, crisis, and influence, including the ability of institutions to manage crises, disasters, and other situations.
